Putting off tasks

I always put everything off and look for reasons to distract myself with smaller tedious tasks. Today I am finally gonna do laundry after 4 days of putting it on my Numo task 😮‍💨

I literally can’t understand how people are able to put something on a to-do list and just do it . My brain just goes, “but you can choose to not do it.” I was discussing this with a friend and she told me about a body-doubling app that she likes, and I get how that could help IF you can initiate actually going into the app and starting (ie someone keeps you accountable to continue working) but, again, how do you make yourself show up for the body-doubling session in the first place? I have important, time sensitive things on my to-do list that have been there for weeks. Are there negative consequences for not doing them? Yes. Does that provide any additional motivation for my brain? No. I just feel like I have zero control over which things my brain will show up for vs the things it won’t. It’s like my brain is a dog who doesn’t know how to walk on a leash, and I’m the idiot holding the leash and being yanked all over the sidewalk.

For those kinds of tasks, I find it helpful to put on music or a podcast or an audiobook.
