Have meds helped you to focus way better, or not so much?

I’ve been through a few different meds so far and none have necessarily made reading any easier for me, not in any substantial way anyway. I’d love to be able to focus enough to read whole books, but nothing has been able to fix the focus and motivation surrounding that for me.

Ritalin works for a while but then I get super burned out and switch to something else

It helps me be less distracted and be able to retain info much better. It doesn’t get rid of the bad habits I’ve developed over the past many years though, so that part still requires self control. However, these meds help me pause long enough to be wiser in decision making and make choices faster (eg. What to wear). Downside is less appetite. So I make sure I have protein/a big meal with my meds (psychiatrist says that helps body absorb ritalin better) Edit: added a sentence to the end.

My have noticed a significant difference without my meds. I take an extended release, and when I don’t have them (like right now because it’s backordered - for example), I feel like my symptoms are really sharp. The meds full everything enough to be able to implement the strategies I’ve learned. I tried 2 others before I settled on this one. The trial and error part of medication is so frustrating!

Yeh I find that I’m actively trying to use strategies which is helping somewhat. Especially using this app and the tick list. I am loving the feeling of completing a task…however I am still setting myself too much to do and then I get down and feel like a failure because I haven’t set out what I wanted to do.
