Diagnosis opinions?

Late in the game, but beginning to recognize commonalities. Do folks have a positive experience with getting a formal diagnosis?

Reread the message from: Eiren. It helps to understand you process things differently. It’s not because of personality inadequacy.

Yes. I felt that the last bit in the puzzle fell into place. All the problems actually got a name and a reason. And it was someone professional that gave me the diagnosis, so that made me feel that it was accepted and my problems wasn’t my fault or bad behaviour/laziness. And it really helped my self esteem to know that my problems had a reason.

The only downside is it being expensive in some cases if you go through all the tests

Oh wow what insurance do you have?

After getting an official diagnosis I don’t have to pay my therapist anymore, it’s covered by insurance. And also my meds now with discount. I’m glad I got it formally

My therapist suggested I complete a self-assessment and that scored positive. Then I brought the self-assessment to my doctor and he gave me a prescription. Doesn’t seem very formal to me but that seems to be how it works here. If you want a proper evaluation / diagnosis in Alberta you have to find a provider outside of the health care system and pay out of pocket. Not sure yet if there is any point to getting formally diagnosed.
