OT hacks - weekly clothing rack
My OT gave me this idea to manage getting dressed, selecting outfits and managing my clothes washing. Clothes rail in bedroom so you don’t have to open your wardrobe and be overwhelmed. 9 complete outfits hanging and labeled on the clothes rail. In order of anticipated wear. Assess whether outfits are sensory friendly and seasonal. Swap out any items with your wardrobe that don’t feel 100% desirable to wear. The idea is you won’t have to open your overwhelming wardrobe again until washing day. My rail looks like this: 3 x Office outfits (x how many days in office. Have two coat/jacket options depending on the weather) 2 x Work from home outfits (x how many days WFH) Comfortable bottoms, corporate top, slippers/socks underneath rail ready to go 2 x Days at home/weekend outfits/or for after work. Can often be worn multiple times. In a box underneath 1 x backup errands outfit 1 x exercise outfit PJs Print a label (e.g Monday - Office) that you can tie around each coat hanger to see the outfits easily. You can have another box underneath the hanger with essential accessories like an umbrella, backpack, lunch bag, reusable shopping bags etc. You can hang your clothes back on the rail when you get home even though they are dirty and hang a new a label on them “to be washed” or just remove the original label. This eliminates a huge washing pile that’s overwhelming. Have a set day, mine is Sunday, to remove the items that need to be washed from the rail. Spray jackets and coats with fabreeze to get extra wears out of them. Please keep me updated on how you go with this system. I will take photos of mine soon once I’m happy with it.
